500 Words Short Story Competition
500 Words Short Story Competition

A number of Year 7-9 students entered the BBC Radio 2 ‘500 Words’ short story competition. The students were tasked to write a story with EXACTLY 500 words which was pretty challenging and topics they chose included Spiders and Dragons!

Year 7 pupil Daniel Harrington was one of the entrants; an extract of his story follows:

It began with rumours, as every disaster does. The idle mumblings of conspiracy theorists and bored suburban housewives, no-one had ever wanted to believe that their cosy little life could be so completely and utterly torn apart. I was the only one, the only one that could even comprehend the magnitude of what was to come. But of course no-one believed me. I tried to warn them but they dismissed me as “crazy” or “delusional.” They were wrong……

We wish all our student the best of luck and wait to hear from the judges, led by Chris Evans himself.
