All pupils experience technical development and competition in a variety of sports including Hockey, Rugby and Swimming and Dance
St Joseph’s College boasts excellent sports facilities including an all-weather AstroTurf pitch, an outside basketball/netball court, a large sports field and an indoor heated swimming pool. In curriculum time, students are taught a variety of team games, swimming, athletics and gymnastics. Inter-competition opportunities are offered to boys and girls in all year groups, entering teams for Berkshire-run events and tournaments. Pupils perform to a high level, experiencing great team success and some individual successes result in County selection for football, hockey, athletics and tennis. A wide range of PE clubs including trampoline, basketball and life-saving are open to all pupils and take place during lunch breaks and after College. Inter-house competitions form a large part of experience and growth in the PE department, enabling all abilities to learn and develop their skills in a competitive environment.
PE is also offered as a GCSE examination subject, giving talented pupils the opportunity to excel in their top sports and to develop different roles such as coach and official.
Older pupils may use the University of Reading facilities and are introduced to squash, badminton, trampoline and basketball. In addition to all these, the Sixth Form have options to take a self-defence or rock climbing course and many choose to become members of the fitness room at University of Reading.
